Tips to keep your baby cool during summer

As a new parent, you might be concerned about keeping your baby safe during the summer days.

If you dress them by covering them too much then it might cause them to get rashes and if you dress them up too lightly it can cause sunburn or heatstroke.

Below we have listed down points on how you can keep your baby safe during the summer days.

1- Direct sunlight

Avoid exposing your baby to direct sunlight as they are not very good at regulating their own body temperature.

You can put on a cute little hat when you take them out or put a shade over their stroller or put a cover over their side of the window when you place them in your car.

2- Dress smartly

The best way to keep your baby safe during summer is to dress them up smartly. You don’t have to cloth them in layers instead just put them in a onesie.

Dress them up in cool, dry cotton clothes so that they feel more comfortable.

3- Hydrate

Always keep your baby hydrated during the summer days.

No matter how much they breast feed or bottle feed, they need to have water also.

You can give them lemon water if they don’t like drinking water.

4- Sunscreen

Sunscreen can really protect your baby from getting sunburn.

If you are taking them outside, say to a beach or a zoo, despite dressing them up smartly or putting on a bucket hat, you can also apply sunscreen on them.

5- Wet towel

If your baby feels too hot you can place a wet towel on their forehead or neck to help them cool down.

You have to ensure that the towel isn’t that cold because you don’t want your baby to get a fever.

6- Stroller fans

You can attach a small, stroller fan while you take them out on a stroller.

They are easy to carry around and are battery operated so you can easily attach them on a stroller while you take your baby out.

7- Curtains closed

When you are at home and it’s a particularly hot day, you can just keep your curtains closed around the house.

You can keep your fan or ac switched on so that your home remains cool throughout the day.

8- Pyjamas

Dress them up minimally while you get them ready for bed.

You can just put them in a diaper and wrap them in muslin so that they don’t feel hot during the night and can fall asleep comfortably.

If your baby finds it difficult to fall asleep you can distract them with picture books or toys until they fall asleep.

9- Stay inside

Try to remain inside whenever it’s too hot for you to go out.

You can go out during the evening times so that your baby doesn’t feel too hot and can enjoy the cool evening breeze.

10- Car

Never leave your baby in a parked car as cars can heat up quickly.

If you need groceries in case of emergencies then just order them online so that you don’t have to take your baby outside unnecessarily.
